Sherman Needs Your Help!
Singing gospel music is just who Sherman Andrus is. From being an original member of Andre Crouch and the Disciples to backing up Jimmy Dean, to the Imperials and
Andrus Blackwood and
Company, when asked his favorite place to sing, without hesitation, he replies
it is the prisons. Sherman has
ministered in prisons across the US and around the world, including the
infamous Folsom prison of Johnny Cash legend.
When the call came to move to Hawaii, it seemed like a dream come true. A dream project in a dream setting with a guaranteed paycheck. Paradise, right?
Filled with hope, six years ago, Sherman and Winnie Andrus found someone to manage the rental of their home of 27 years, packed up all of their belongings and shipped it all to Hawaii.
Four years later, disillusioned by broken promises, they returned to find their beautiful home absolutely demolished by renters. Over a period of months and with help of faithful volunteers, they were finally able to move into the ground floor level of the home, even though portions of the home were still uninhabitable.
And then came the rains, flooding the downstairs, ruining the wood floor in the dining room and surrounding walls.
At age 68,
Sherman Andrus has always remained faithful to God and His people. He and
Winnie have stood strong in the face of adversity both in their physical bodies
(Sherman has just finished a round of radiation therapy for cancer and Winnie
suffers from macular degeneration) and in their circumstances. This is why I believe that God wants us
– you and me – to be His hands, and His heart and His feet to minister to this
man and woman who have laid down their lives for the Gospel.
